What to Do in a Dental Emergency

If you experience a dental emergency, it's important to seek care as quickly as possible. Dental emergencies can include severe tooth pain, a knocked-out tooth, broken, chipped, infected, or abscessed tooth, or a soft tissue injury. If you require urgent care, please contact our office immediately. Meanwhile, here are some general guidelines for common dental emergencies:

Severe Tooth Pain: Persistent or severe pain may indicate an infection or other serious issue. Contact us immediately for an appointment.
Knocked-Out Tooth: If a tooth is knocked out, try to place it back in its socket without touching the root. If that's not possible, keep the affected tooth moist in a container of milk or saliva and seek emergency care right away.
Broken or Chipped Tooth: Save any pieces of the tooth and rinse your mouth gently with warm water. Use a cold compress to reduce swelling, and contact our office as soon as possible.
Abscessed Tooth: A tooth abscess is a serious infection that can cause complications like pain, swelling, fever, and bone loss around the affected tooth's root. Immediate attention is necessary to help prevent the infection from spreading.

Note: In case of severe swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, or any life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

If you're unable to visit our office immediately, our teledentistry services offer a convenient way to receive guidance for handling dental emergencies from the comfort of your home. We will assess your situation remotely, provide pain management advice, and prescribe antibiotics if needed. You may require an in-office follow-up appointment to repair damaged teeth and restore your smile.
